Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world. The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), founded in 1717, is its governing body in England and Wales. Freemasons share four core values: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service.

How Freemasonry is organised

Craft lodge
Where every Freemason starts, through three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason.

Royal Arch chapter
The completion of “pure antient masonry”, under the Supreme Grand Chapter.

Other orders
Further orders, each independent with its own governing body, open to members who wish to go further.
